A Rustic Wedding at Emu Bottom Homestead

A WEDDING AT EMU BOTTOM HOMESTEAD

VENUE: EMU BOTTOM HOMESTEAD

PHOTOGRAPHER: FRANK - DREAMLIFE

What a pleasure it was to film Luke and Jade. Their wedding video at Emu Bottom Homestead was the perfect blend of elation and emotion; perfectly summed up when Luke pulled out the guitar to perform a love song he’d written for Jade followed by their shared laughter of how cringy it was.

ABOUT THE COUPLE

HOW DID YOU GUYS MEET?

I (Luke) first saw Jade in a photo with my best mate and asked him, “Who is that!?”. Jade and I got to chatting online and then I totally ghosted her. After realising how dumb I was being, missing out on the opportunity to meet this amazing woman, we got to hang out a few times in a group setting and it just blossomed from there. So we met through friends.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO CAPTURE YOUR WEDDING ON VIDEO?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million. Although we cherish our photos, our wedding video puts the images into context, it adds depth, immersion and perfectly captures the atmosphere of our wedding and our love.

WHY DID YOU GUYS PICK ME?

Picking a videographer can be daunting because your wedding day is made up of moments and whether they can effectively and honestly capture those moments is what determines a good videographer from a bad one. Will they be able to create a wedding video that will accurately record one of the most incredible days of your life, for you to relive in the years to come? Having followed Jamie on social media for a long time, seeing the progression of his work, the flare and style he was developing and spark he was bringing into it, gave us the confidence he’d be able to capture our special day. He was also incredibly accommodating and easy going.

YOU GUYS… WHAT DO YOU DO? HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS? WHAT’S IMPORTANT IN LIFE?

Luke is a train driver who has way too many hobbies and loves trying to lift heavy things. Jade is currently in child protection services with a background in health. Together we love experiencing new things, trying new foods, we’ve done a lot of travel, have a beautiful chocolate labrador called Mika and we do our best to support each other in our personal goals and in our shared goals. What’s important in life? Love, family and friends.

THE PROPOSAL… TELL ME EVERYTHING

Ohhh man. I spent a long time planning a proposal. I had come up with so many different ideas; an example of one idea I had come up with, I wanted to take Jade to the Great Barrier Reef, I was going to (somehow) go beforehand or get one of the organisers to help out with planting a little treasure chest amongst the coral. Then, whilst snorkelling, I’d be all like, “Hey Jade, there’s something over here.” She would swim over, discover the little treasure chest, open it and discover an engagement ring. Haha yeah, I didn’t end up going with that. I’m very lucky to have a mate who owns a restaurant in Williamstown. I told him my plan and he offered to let me use the beer gardens in the back of his restaurant. So one morning, I got up, put on my work clothes, kissed Jade goodbye and “set off to work”.

In actual fact, I had called in sick and drove straight to the restaurant. I spent all day clearing out the gardens, I hung fairy lights everywhere and I made a string of lights going from the back door, leading to a circle of lights at the back. Along the string of lights were photos of our relationship. That night we went to my mates restaurant for dinner, I got up and went to “the toilet” and snuck out back, ready. My mate went to Jade and said “Hey, we’ve been doing some renovations out back, you should have a quick look.” He led her to the back door and when she walked out she was met with all the fairy lights and I had setup speakers to play the song she had mentioned she’d love to walk down the aisle to. Once she had gotten inside the circle of lights, I turned off the music and came out with my acoustic guitar. I played her a song, got down on one knee and proposed.

After she said “yes”, a private table was setup outside and we had dinner beneath the stars and fairy lights.

EMU BOTTOM HOMESTEAD… WHY HERE ABOVE ANYWHERE ELSE?

We love country Australia and the outback so we wanted a rustic style wedding. We had a look at a few locations but we immediately fell in love with Emu bottom homestead. It had the look and vibe we wanted; wildlife right at the door, big gum trees, an old homestead with a massive fireplace, it was beautiful.

 TELL ME ABOUT YOUR HONEYMOON

Due to covid lockdowns, we had to wait over a year till we could go on our honeymoon but for our honeymoon, we decked out an old tradie van and lived in it for 5 months, travelling up the east coast of Australia, living the van life. It was incredible.
