WARRAWONG ESTATE WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY

A WEDDING FILMED AT WARRAWONG ESTATE, EYNESBURY //

VENUE: WARRAWONG ESATE

PHOTOGRAPHER: LACHLAN CHATFIELD

Warrawong Estate is one of the few high-quality wedding venues located out west of Melbourne, and one of the closest to the city in that category of country-style properties stretching from Gisborne to Ballarat. For couples wanting that open rural feel without going too far from home, it’s a great option. As a Melbourne wedding videographer, it’s refreshing to shoot at a venue like this that balances convenience with character.

The day began with both bride and groom getting ready at their respective family homes in Werribee. The mood on both sides was relaxed, with parents and bridal parties keeping things light and comfortable. But there were still a few emotional highlights, including the couple reading heartfelt letters to each other and a couple of strong first-look moments with the bride’s father and bridesmaids. These are the kinds of beats I love building into a wedding film—they show the emotional range of the day in a way that feels personal and grounded.

Out at Warrawong Estate, the timing was crucial. It was mid-June, so we were working with the shortest days Melbourne has to offer. The ceremony was set for 4pm, which meant the sun was already setting over the valley by the time the bride walked down the aisle. Fortunately, the timing worked in our favour. We caught a perfect sun flare right behind her entrance, then soft even light as the sun dipped behind the hill and the rest of the ceremony unfolded in shade. From a wedding videography perspective, this kind of light is ideal. Balanced exposure across the entire scene, no harsh shadows or overblown highlights.

The trade-off was that light disappeared quickly after the ceremony, and that put a tight limit on couple portraits. We adjusted the plan on the fly. Rather than doing family photos first, we took the couple directly from the aisle out into a nearby open paddock. It gave us just enough time to get those key romantic shots before the sun vanished completely. Family photos were rescheduled for later in the evening, which turned out to be a bonus. They were taken upstairs in Warrawong’s barrel room, which gave them a moody and distinctive backdrop that most wedding albums don’t have.

The outdoor area at Warrawong is clearly designed with winter receptions in mind. It’s well lit and well laid out, with plenty of space for guests to enjoy canapés and drinks while looking into the reception space through the large sliding door. From the outside, you could see the glow of a candlelit dining setup waiting inside, and once doors opened, it became a beautiful contrast from the crisp night air.

Dinner, speeches and first dance all unfolded smoothly. The room is warm and welcoming, with enough space to seat everyone without it feeling too large or echoey. Once the formalities were done, the dancefloor filled and the energy stayed high through to the end of my coverage.

If you're planning a country-style wedding in the western suburbs or beyond and want to avoid the long drives often involved, Warrawong Estate is a strong option. From a wedding videographer’s perspective, it offers a dramatic natural setting, smart reception layout, and just enough flexibility to work around the challenges of winter light. It’s a place that feels connected to the landscape, while still offering comfort and polish throughout the day.
