ABOUT THE WEDDING

Kaixin and Matthew’s wedding at Vines of the Yarra Valley was nothing short of magical. The day started with heavy cloud cover, and while overcast skies can sometimes dull the atmosphere of a wedding, here, they had the opposite effect. Mist rolled over the vineyard-covered hills, creating an incredibly cinematic backdrop—almost like something out of a European countryside wedding.

One unique aspect of this wedding was the later ceremony time, scheduled for 5:30 pm. This meant the golden hour light, which had been hidden all day, made its appearance at exactly the right moment. As the sun broke through just in time for the vows, it illuminated the vibrant florals and bathed the couple in warm, golden light. The atmosphere was breathtaking, and it was one of those rare instances where everything lined up perfectly.

Since the ceremony was held later, the couple’s portrait session took place right at sunset—a dream scenario for any wedding videographer. With the soft, warm glow against the vines, we captured some truly stunning footage. As night fell, the rain started coming down, and instead of shying away from it, Kaixin and Matthew fully embraced the moment. I set up my spotlight behind them, and the result was pure cinematic magic—raindrops glowing around them as they shared an intimate embrace. It was the perfect way to close out their wedding film.

The celebration that followed was just as incredible. With a guest list full of energy, the dance floor was packed from the start, making for some of the best reception footage I’ve captured. And I have to give a special mention to Vines of the Yarra Valley—their dessert spread was hands down the best I’ve ever had at a wedding!

This wedding was a reminder that perfect conditions aren’t always about blue skies and sunshine. Sometimes, it’s the unexpected—the mist, the golden-hour timing, and the rain—that make a day truly unforgettable.
