LYREBIRD FALLS WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY
A WEDDING FILMED AT LYREBIRD FALLS, DANDENONG RANGES //
VENUE: LYREBIRD FALLS
PHOTOGRAPHER: CHIDEM PHOTOGRAPHY
Filming weddings at Lyrebird Falls in the Dandenong Ranges always offers something unique. As a Melbourne wedding videographer, it’s one of those venues that stands out not just for its setting, but for how well that setting supports a cinematic wedding film.
This day started up in the hills, filming bride prep at a treehouse-style Airbnb tucked into the forest. The Dandenong Ranges are known for these kinds of stays—secluded, surrounded by towering ferns, and perfect for that quiet, reflective time before the ceremony. The soft natural light filtering through the trees, the quiet atmosphere, and the textures of timber and greenery made it an ideal place to begin the story of the day.
Down at Lyrebird Falls, I met up with the groom and we set up a first look in the Lyrebird Chapel. This is the venue’s wet-weather ceremony space. I’ve filmed at Lyrebird three times previously and each time the weather had held off, so I hadn’t yet had the chance to use the chapel. Getting to finally shoot in there was exciting. It’s a beautifully intimate space, tucked into the landscape and surrounded by dense greenery. Even on a cloudy day, the light through the trees gives the room a soft, natural atmosphere.
I’ve filmed a couple of winter weddings at Lyrebird Falls now, and both times the weather has been better than expected. Despite being set in a rainforest, the air has felt fresh rather than damp, and gentle mist drifting through the trees has added a layer of atmosphere that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. The short winter days mean night falls quickly, but the venue leans into this with a warm and inviting reception space that comes to life after dark.
We took advantage of the early sunset for some night shots in the gardens. While Lyrebird Falls doesn’t have a huge variety of locations for portraits, the ones it does have are thoughtfully styled. Fairy lights, soft path lighting and well-placed garden uplights make it easy to build mood and depth into the couple shoot. With a bit of creativity and planning, it’s more than enough to create strong visuals that stand out in the final wedding video.
The couple’s first dance was a standout moment. A live version of Iris performed by Paper Hearts filled the room, with dry ice and indoor sparkler machines lifting the moment even higher. It was one of those perfect finishes that ties the whole film together—a strong emotional beat, backed by music and atmosphere that feels genuinely earned.
If you’re planning your wedding in the Dandenong Ranges and looking for a venue that offers intimacy, atmosphere, and consistently beautiful light, Lyrebird Falls is a strong option. From a wedding videography perspective, it’s a place that gives you just enough to be creative, while always delivering a distinct, forest-style feel. And whether you’re after a lush summer celebration or something misty and romantic in the cooler months, it always seems to deliver something special.
