ABOUT THE WEDDING
The morning began under thick, heavy clouds out over Geelong where the couple were getting ready. It felt a little ominous at first, but in a way it set the tone for a very calm and intimate day. The boys’ coverage was kept quick and painless as usual. A simple suit up, a few group shots, and most of their attention was on casually watching the basketball. It was a nice contrast to the girls’ side of the morning, which carried more of that familiar mix of nerves and anticipation.
Over with the girls, I filmed some relaxed getting ready moments, gave their golden retriever a quick pat, and wrapped up with some really lovely dress reveal moments with dad and the bridesmaids. These are always some of my favourite parts of the prep, because they are genuine interactions where I can just observe and capture things creatively, rather than stepping in and giving directions.
I then headed over to Jack Rabbit Winery, where the weather hadn’t improved. As the ceremony began, a light drizzle started to fall, which almost felt inevitable. I am yet to experience perfect weather at Jack Rabbit, with two previous weddings also hit by rain and another that was 40 degrees with strong winds. Despite that, I am never too worried filming there. Every Jack Rabbit wedding video I have made has still looked incredible, which really speaks to the venue itself and how well it holds up in challenging conditions.
From a wedding videographer’s perspective, overcast days at Jack Rabbit can actually be a blessing. The colours tend to come through beautifully, with rich greens in the vineyards and lawns, and a really soft warmth across the open fields, especially as the sun starts to drop. Almost without fail, things calm down by sunset, and it consistently becomes one of the best locations for sunset footage in the state.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed canapés out on the deck before heading into the reception space, which had been styled beautifully for the evening. It became the setting for a relaxed sit down dinner, heartfelt speeches, and eventually a lively dancefloor. I wrapped up shortly after the formalities and later put together a wedding film that focused on capturing the true feeling of the day. Even with the gloomy weather, I wanted the video to feel light, sentimental, and warm, so the final film really reflected the mood rather than the conditions.
For couples considering Jack Rabbit Winery wedding videography, this day was another reminder of why I love filming there. No matter what the weather throws at it, it remains one of the most visually reliable and emotionally rich venues to tell a wedding story.
