ABOUT THE WEDDING

The Hellenic Museum in Melbourne combines cultural richness with modern sophistication. As a Melbourne wedding videographer, filming weddings here is always inspiring due to the venue’s unique architecture and intimate atmosphere.

Peter and Vivienne’s wedding was a vibrant celebration filled with tradition, love, and unforgettable moments. As a wedding videographer in Melbourne, days like this remind me why I love what I do—when there’s so much to capture, a single five-minute film could never do it justice. Thankfully, Peter and Vivienne booked my Premier Package, which includes full-day coverage and a feature-length wedding film. Given the scale of their wedding, it was the perfect choice.

Vietnamese weddings often run from early morning into the late evening, and this day was no different. I always admire the brides and bridesmaids, who start incredibly early to prepare—hair, makeup, and dressing in traditional áo dài—before the ceremonies even begin. It’s a long day, but one where Melbourne’s generous January daylight hours work in our favor, giving us time to film everything beautifully without feeling rushed.

The day began with one of the most cherished Vietnamese customs: the groom and his wedding party arriving at the bride’s home bearing gifts, asking for permission to enter and begin the marriage rites. In recent years, I’ve seen many couples blend Western elements into this tradition, and Peter and Vivienne did just that. Before being allowed inside, Peter was put to the test with a series of fun and heartfelt questions to prove how well he knew his bride. Peter was actually impressively sharp during the entry games and skillfully avoided the punishment—a vodka shot, which is no easy feat at 9 in the morning.

Once inside, the tea ceremony was held—a deeply respectful and emotional ritual where the couple pays tribute to their parents and elders. Both families offered kind and touching words, creating one of the most heartfelt segments of the day. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a delicious traditional feast, with suckling pig—a staple at Vietnamese weddings—served alongside other favourites. After a short afternoon break, we transitioned into the Western portion of the day.

Later in the afternoon, I met the couple at Crown Towers for a brief filming session while they changed into their Western wedding outfits. It was a great opportunity to capture some more intimate and calm moments before heading to their civil ceremony at the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne.

The outdoor ceremony was set under a sprawling, ancient tree—an idyllic scene enhanced by the music of a live grand piano. It was relaxed, romantic, and heartfelt. Peter and Vivienne’s vows were beautifully written, full of emotion, and will become the narrative thread of their wedding film. It’s always a joy as a wedding videographer to witness vows that feel so personal and true.

After the ceremony, we made a quick trip to Carlton Gardens, one of Melbourne’s most iconic locations for wedding photography and videography. The lush greenery and classic architecture never disappoint, and we captured some truly cinematic couple shots during golden hour.

The final stop for the day was Sheldon Receptions, where the celebration expanded to a massive reception with over 500 guests—the biggest wedding I’ve ever filmed. The night featured everything from wedding games to a stunning first dance with indoor sparklers, and an absolutely electric dancefloor that didn’t show any signs of slowing down as I wrapped up my gear for the night.

Peter and Vivienne’s day was the perfect blend of culture, modern celebration, and heartfelt connection. It was an absolute privilege to be their wedding videographer, and to craft a wedding film that captures both the grandeur and the intimacy of their day. If you're planning a wedding in Melbourne—traditional, modern, or a mix of both—I’d love to help tell your story.
